Diversity Through Local Responsiveness
The United States is large enough to support 30 new local exchanges like LanX. The target region has a distinct identity, an equity gap, and sufficient population and GDP to support business growth. It will also tend to have partisan institutions like farmers’ markets, business associations, and a narrative of local self-reliance. Possible targets for expansion include: southeastern Michigan, Hartford, Richmond, North Carolina, Atlanta, Minneapolis, New Orleans, northern New England, the Pacific Northwest, Denver/Boulder, east Texas, and Des Moines. The proximity business model relies on indigenous funding and infrastructure and so can be replicated at scale nationally and then globally once the template has been refined.
