Local Securities Market for Sustainable Local Economies
LanX would facilitate the connection between local businesses and local investors. LanX is a self-sustaining, locally governed, regional securities market that would match small and medium size enterprises in South Central Pennsylvania with individual and institutional investors. It would promote both social and economic growth. LanX would help small firms issue shares, provide initial investors with new opportunities, and maintain a accessible platform to trade shares. LanX expands on previously-used regional market concepts. Its goal is to list 50 local firms in 10 years with reasonable liquidity. Once the pilot market is established in South Central Pennsylvania, it has the ability to be replicated in unique communities all over North America.
A National Network of Local Markets
LanX is the first project of a national grassroots effort to build local exchanges in many regions of the country. Some may be anchored around one major city, such as Detroit or Albany. Others might be anchored in a distinct region, such as South Central Pennsylvania or the Carolinas. By collaborating together to learn best practices and attain economies of scale, this network will provide a valuable financing alternative to distant, centralized and impersonal markets for smaller scale financing needs.
