Financial Sustainability and Social Return on Investment (SROI)
LanX offers a great return on investment relative to other economic development mechanisms. It is a perfect funding vehicle with which to facilitate a “greener” U.S. economy. The budget is $700,000 per year, primarily for staffing and outreach functions. The first five years will be funded through a mix of public economic development and private foundation grants. Listed firms will pay various fees to support the exchange’s operations, leading to self-sufficiency in year 5. LanX’s SROI can be measured through efficient job creation, healthy levels of community investment and entrepreneurship, enriched local social and economic networks, and increased civic pride and participation. New jobs funded through LanX will cost $10,000, or one-ninth the cost estimated for Federal government stimulus jobs.
